FAQ
About Linen
-
Linen is a fabric unlike any other, produced from the Flax plant it requires very little water to propagate so is incredibly sustainable, it is naturally hypoallergenic, boasts antibacterial properties and when cared for correctly it will become more beautiful with age, making this fabric the ideal choice for both bedding and homewares.
-
Linen is made from the fibrous material in the stem of the flax plant. From planting the flax seed to weaving the linen fibre is a long, specialist procedure involving many hours of labour and careful precision to create your soft, much loved bed sheets.
-
Linen is produced from the flax plant which requires a specific climate and rich soil conditions to successfully grow. Once the flax plant matures, the harvesting procedure for the fibre is a timely, skilful technique that requires many stages of retting, scutching, hackling, weaving and dyeing. This procedure is more labour intensive than the production of cotton and therefore the cost is somewhat higher.
-
Linen has a unique open weave structure that is perfect for bedding as it allows air to flow around you, wicking away any moisture and helping to regulate your temperature. It can help keep you warm in the colder months and cool in the summer, enabling you to have an enjoyable sleep throughout the year.
-
Linen is measured by its weight per square metre (gsm) and not by a thread count, which is typically used for cotton. Flax threads are much thicker than cotton and therefore a thread count would appear low in comparison to fine strands of cotton.
